Callaloo

Callaloo is also known as calaloo or green leaf amaranth. This is a green leafy vegetable which is the Jamaican's spinach, and can be treated in the same way, either raw or cooked.

Though callaloo is more popular in the Jamaican diet than spinach is in our western diet. Steamed callaloo is served with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Rich in iron, vitamin A and C, calcium, it can be compared to broccoli for its goodness.

Cooked with saltfish, steamed callaloo is a popular and healthy vegetable at the Caribbean Hut.
