Scotch Bonnet Chile Pepper

A variety of the Chile Pepper, the Capsicum chinense, otherwise known as the scotch bonnet is one of the hottest chiles in the world. Equally as fierce as and of the same species as the Habanero, the scotch bonnet is to be used with care.

Resembling a Scot's bonnet, these irregularly shaped chilies come in colours ranging from green, yellow, orange and bright red. Mainly found growing in the Caribbean, scotch bonnets give Caribbean dishes their distinct unique flavour.

Scotch bonnets should only be consumed in cooked food, as raw scotch bonnet chilies can cause numbness of the hands and cheeks, dizziness, as well as considerable heartburn.

The Caribbean Hut uses scotch bonnets for authentic flavours in their Brown Stewed Chicken and Jerk seasoning.
